The megapixel does not matter. All that matters is you should go through the manual, which will take you through the features of the camera.

Buy a prime lens, if you are using a DSLR

To get better with your images, its lights and blurring use a prime lens. It is a fixed lens and does not zoom. This is more useful in your learning period as you are still getting familiar with the aperture, shutter speed, and image sensitivity.

Memory card for backups
Memory cards are required to store images. One large memory card may not be a good option as it might just stop working. Hence, purchase a few in different storage spaces and keep it in your camera bag for your access.

Tripod

Do not buy a very expensive tripod. It helps in capturing images without being blurred with longer shutter speed. This will also keep your camera stable.

Camera bag

Exposure

As a beginner, exposure is the main factor for capturing a great image. The first thing you need to do is to learn to take control of your camera and how you can make images better. Aperture, shutter speed, ISO is the key elements that compose an exposure. Once you learn these elements, you can start shifting from manual mode. This is where you start taking control of your camera.
These three settings combined to control the amount of light when capturing an image. Changing one of these settings will want change in the others also.

Manual White balance

White balance is a strange concept because as a beginner and as humans white is white for us. However, the camera does not know what is white and we have to tell the camera what white exists. When the camera is set to auto then the camera will identify the white portion when an image is taken. When your camera is set to manually white balance and the camera settings are set right according to the lighting on the subject. Then the colors come out right and bright. The camera produces a vibrant image.

Learning the camera Inside out

The first and the foremost step as a beginner should be understanding all the tools that are at your disposal. When you learn about all the buttons and the technical aspects, then you can approach photography as your creative field. Learning all the settings, the aperture and every option is a must. Then the camera becomes your extended eye and photography your passion!
It sounds difficult but using your time in reading the details of the camera from the manual is a good way to be acquainted with your camera. It would be much better if you practically use it every day and shoot pictures and get more and more familiar with the uses and settings of the camera.
Once you get a hang of your camera and you get into the practice of taking images, your lifestyle will change, you will want to wake up early and stay up late nights to get unique lighting.
